Vertical Farming

Vertical Farming in Osnabrueck, Germany! Researchers compare the harvest of horizontal and vertical hydroponic farming.

Aim of the study is mainly to quantify the crop yields per area. Also the quality of the products are measured. To control light affects PAR-sensors (photosynthetic active radiation) are used, which are measuring the photon flux. Both grow systems have a circular nutrient flow, which saves a lot of water and nutrients.

First results show that harvest of vertical system is higher compared to conventional horizontal grow system, even so lettuce heads are a bit smaller.

Vertical systems are a great chance for efficient and sustainable farming by producing a lot more yield per area!
